As it turns out, May 10th has been a pretty lucky day for the world of music. There's been nothing of note this year, but in the last 50 years, there have been a string of iconic albums all landing on today's date. Thus, we've put together a special Album of the Week feature this week, including seven of our favourite albums released on this day...

New York Dolls - Too Much Too Soon (1974)

The band's second release (coming a year after their iconic self-titled debut album), Too Much Too Soon is very much a cult record often labelled as one of the earliest punk rock albums. New York Dolls enlisted producer Shadow Morton on the album, and while much of it was re-recordings of demos and cover songs such as The Cadets' Stranded in the Jungle, it is still considered an important record in the proto-punk movement.

Duran Duran lead singer Simon Le Bon has reacted to a fan’s recent accusation of sexual assault, denying the story and saying it is “simply untrue”.

The woman, named Shereen Hariri, claimed that the pop star groped her during an autograph session at a record store where she worked in 1995. Taking to Facebook earlier this week, she says that Le Bon was posing for photos when he grabbed her “butt cheek” and started “making his way down my butt to my genitals”.

“I was shocked and completely frozen,” she continued, adding that she is not seeking compensation, only an apology from Le Bon.

Justin Bieber picked up two of the biggest awards at last night’s MTV Europe Music Awards in Milan. The singer, who has made a career comeback in recent months, was named both best male and best worldwide act: North America, also taking to the stage to perform hit single ‘What Do You Mean?’

Accepting the best male award, Bieber said: “Wow, thank you. It’s been a long couple of years, um, I just feel like this is pretty awesome to be recognised for my music. I just want to say thank you to all of my fans, you guys are really incredible.”

It's the longest gap between albums they've ever had but Duran Duran are making a spectacular return with their fourteenth album 'Paper Gods' later this year. Featuring a range of huge names, the album will be released to coincide with their US tour.

'Paper Gods' saw the legendary new wave band hit their London studio again alongside Chic's Nile Rodgers, 'Uptown Funk' hitmaker Mark Ronson, Kanye West collaborator Mr Hudson and the familiar face of Josh Blair on the production team. Of course, that's not to mention the guest contributors such as Janelle Monae who appears on the upcoming first single 'Pressure Off', Juno winner Kiesza, John Frusciante from Red Hot Chili Peppers, and even Hollywood actress Lindsay Lohan.

The first wave of artists have now been announced for the 2015 Gibraltar Music Festival, which is set to take place at the British Overseas Territory in September. Leading this year's particularly exciting line-up are headliners Kings Of Leon and Duran Duran.

This year's bill is set to be the biggest yet for the family-friendly Gibraltar Music Festival, with Kings Of Leon and Duran Duran being joined by more stellar names including British chart sensation Tom Odell, up and coming singer-songwriter Rae Morris, Brit nominated power pop band The Feeling and four-piece Lawson.

A study by the University of London and Imperial College has concluded that the emergence of hip hop has had the biggest impact on the charts of any genre since the 1950s. The study also found that the importance of The Beatles may have been overstated, suggesting that the fab five did not spark a musical revolution.

The study found there were three musical revolutions on the charts, the first being in 1964 with the rise of rock and roll bands such as The Beatles. The second was in the mid 80s with the use of synthesisers and drum machines, while the third came in 1991 when rap and hip-hop infiltrated the mainstream charts.

80s legends Duran Duran are reportedly suing their own fan club - or, more accurately, the firm that funs their official fan club – for withholding profits.

The Chicago Sun Times reports that the band is in the middle of a legal battle because the Chicago-based Worldwide Fan Clubs allegedly failed to hand over more than £23,000 in profits. They want to reclaim that £23k, and are looking for another £500 on top of that. It all sounds nicer when you say it in dollars. Duran Duran wants $40k.

NICK RHODES, founding member and keyboardist of Duran Duran, has reportedly taken the next step in his relation with girlfriend Nefer Suvio, by moving in with her. The 51-year-old new wave rocker met his 32-year-old Italian beauty two years ago in Rome. Rhodes has now revealed that the couple have taken up residence together in his London home.

In an interview with 'The Daily Mail', Rhodes explained: "I've taken the plunge and we're now living together at my house in Chelsea." The keyboardist goes on to explain how the almost 20-year age difference between he and his beloved is not a disadvantage to their relationship, saying: "I'm a lot older than Nef, but so what! I've quietened down in some ways since the Eighties - but I'm not ready for pipe and slippers yet. Everyone gets older, but I don't feel old. Having a younger woman helps."

Chris Martin can rest easy. It wasn’t an April Fool’s joke. It turns out that Radio 2’s listeners really do hold his band Coldplay in higher regard that the likes of The Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd. So much so, that they have voted the Coldplay album A Rush of Blood To The Head as their favourite of all time. Coldplay beat the likes of Keane, Duran Duran, Pink Floyd and Dido, who filled out the rest of the top five places.

The poll, according to BBC News, had been held to coincide with the BBC season The Golden Age of the Album and the station’s listeners voted on their favourite albums. The Coldplay album, released in 2002, sold over 2.8 million copies and included the singles The Scientist and Clocks. Jeff Smith, the head of music at Radio 2 said “Musicians such as Coldplay and Dido have struck a chord with listeners and are in good company in the top 10 alongside legendary bands like The Rolling Stones and The Beatles, whose appeal remains undiminished after all these years.”

The Rolling Stones didn’t enter the chart until sixth place, with their 1971 album Sticky Fingers and The Beatles went in at eight, after The Pet Shop Boys, with Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
