Robbie Williams pranked fans by claiming he'd been invited to headline next year's Super Bowl Halftime Show.

The 'Rock DJ' singer - who is currently riding high on the back of his biopic 'Better Man' - decided to troll his millions of followers on X/Twitter this week, by claiming he would be the next artist to perform midway between the NFL Championship in 2026.

After rapper Kendrick Lamar headlined the sporting spectacle at the weekend, Robbie penned: “OMG. I’ve just been asked to do next year’s halftime at the Super Bowl."

The joke announcement caused quite the stir, prompting the 'Angels' hitmaker to clarify: "I’m not doing the Super Bowl halftime show. I got bored and decided to get into trolling."

The original post attracted a whopping 5.2 million views.

Robbie, 51, is played by a monkey in his movie and one fan commented: "You or the monkey, Rob?"

Many users failed to get the joke and congratulated the star, while others mocked him for not being well-known in the US.

A user wrote: "No you haven’t… they don’t know you in america??? Wait do they??? (sic)"

Robbie previously admitted he thinks he is still alive because he never cracked America.

The former Take That star has spoken candidly about his struggles with mental health and addiction over the years and was relieved he was able to escape the glare of the spotlight in the UK to spend time living in Los Angeles in the late 2000s, where he felt "safe".

He told the Telegraph magazine: “I mean, I genuinely think that I’m very lucky to be alive, and I wonder how much in part that is because I didn’t break here.

"And there has been a safety that I don’t feel anywhere where I am famous.”

Robbie hopes 'Better Man' will boost his chances of making it in America.

He said: “I’d really like to show off for America now. I’m ready for it.”
