Throughout the early to mid 1990's South Africa remained a divided country, despite the efforts of individual people to unite South Africa attempts always fell short. When newly elected President Mandella looked at his country, he knew his country was drastically split in two divided by racial and economic differences.
When Nelson Mandella approached Francois Pienarr - the captain of South Africa's rugby team, he told him of an idea to unite his split nation through a universal love of the sport. Invictus was filmed entirely on location in Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa.
