Jon Favreau is planning to donate his $26,000 cash prize from the Tribeca Film Festival to a New York City food rescue charity. The actor-director won the Heineken Audience Award for Best Narrative Film on Saturday (April 26, 2014), for his food truck movie Chef.

We thought Chef would turn out to be really, really good on the strength of the excellent trailer and the critics piled in with the positive reviews.

"CHEF is a lot of things - it's fitting that a road trip movie should be so all over the map - but what it is most of all is a celebration of tasty food and the people who make it, and I guess I can get behind that," said Meredith Borders of Badass Digest.

"The film is heaven for food porn enthusiasts, with its lovingly shot montages of sautéed veggies, juicy grilled meats and gooey melted cheeses," said Zeba Blay of Digital Spy.

Favreau has since revealed that the prize money from the Tribeca award will be heading to City Harvest, a group which aims to provide fresh produce for poverty-stricken residents across New York. 

Chef follows the story of Carl Casper (Favreau), a chef who suddenly quits his job as a prominent Los Angeles restaurant after refusing to compromise his creative integrity for its controlling owner (Dustin Hoffman). Winding up in Miami, Casper teams up with his ex-wife (Sofia Vergara) his friend (John Leguizamo) and his son to launch a food truck. The movie gets a full release on June 20, 2014. 

Elsewhere at Tribeca, Alan Hicks won the award for Best Documentary, for his movie Keep On Keepin' On.
