So, Live At Leeds is but two weeks away from bringing some of the country's best music veterans and up and coming stars to one of its greatest cities. But while you're there, you may as well enjoy the rest of what this incredible Yorkshire city has to offer.

Home to two universites, an extraodinary library, a colossal shopping centre and some of the best restaurants in the nation, Leeds is the place to be to kick off festival season even without taking the music into account. While the weekend of May 1st to 4th may boast a line-up including The Cribs, Gaz Coombes, George The Poet, MNEK, Gengahr, The Strypes and more, there's plenty of places to sit and let it all soak in while enjoying a decent meal and a pint.

Soft Walls - No Time
10) Soft Walls - No Time
Multi-talented musician-cum-producer Dan Reeves divides his time playing in several bands with running a record label. This effort, his second as Soft Walls ranks as his finest collection to date. Although heralded as one of new psychedelia's finest releases, 'No Time' owes as much to Phil Spector and Suicide as it does anything else, and sounds all the more accomplished for it.

Temples - Sun Structures
9) Temples - Sun Structures

Having spent the best part of two years touring the songs that would eventually go onto become 'Sun Structures', it was perhaps somewhat inevitable that the album would be every bit as good as we'd hoped. What happens next will be key to Temples long-term future, but for now 'Sun Structures' is a fitting document of the band's inaugural stages.

Cheatahs - Cheatahs
8) Cheatahs - Cheatahs

This cosmopolitan four-piece might display their influences quite brazenly. However, this debut bears all the hallmarks of a classic. Referencing the likes of My Bloody Valentine, Swervedriver and Teenage Fanclub at regular intervals yet retaining a distinctive edge all the same, 'Cheatahs' is the sound of a band discovering an identity and using it to their advantage.

Eagulls - Nottingham 29th Oct 2014 Live Review

On a mild night in Nottingham, Eagulls took stage to a sold-out Bodega club and, looking around, it seemed like Eagulls had landed in this venue at the perfect time. This venue was bouncing when full and, judging by the demand of this band, they won't be playing a room this small next time they come to Nottingham, that is for sure.

Eagulls - Nottingham Bodega Social 29th Oct 2014 Live Review

Before Eagulls appeared though, their fellow Leeds friend Autobahn warmed up the stage, who at this point I feel deserve a mention. Autobahn got the Nottingham crowd going with their bass driven tunes, lead singer Craig Johnson and his distinctive afro style hair bellowing out the vocals making this band an interesting concept and one to watch for the future.

Eagulls kicked off their set with a new track, a track that I have no clue of the name. This has to be the best way of showing the band's confidence in their music by kicking off a night with a previously unheard track? After giving the Nottingham crowd something new, they dived straight into 'Tough Luck' which got the crowd going; the band seemed on top form, even alongside their banter with the sound man as they kept asking for tweaks. Eagulls just blasted through their album no frills just straight to the point.

If you want a unique festival experience this year, London could be the place for you. Featuring a diverse range of events from the independent ethics of Jabberwocky to the mainstream attitude of Wireless, 2014 is not all about the States.

The UK is home to some incredible, highly respected music festivals such as Isle of Wight Festival, Leeds and Reading Festival and, of course, Glastonbury - but just what do we have in store from the nation's capital? London is unquestionably the UK's most vibrant city and, when it comes to music, there's really no denying that. The rest of the world may have SXSW, Coachella, Ultra and Exit (to name but a very small few), but London has a plethora of unique local events with line-ups and atmospheres that really prove their worth - and we're here to share them with you.

All Tomorrow's Parties present this brand new festival for 2014, co-hosted by Pitchfork and Primavera Sound and set to take place at The Excel Centre this August. For its inaugural event, Jabberwocky will see headline acts from Neutral Milk Hotel, James Blake, Darkside and Caribou, not to mention support from Kurt Vile & The Violators, Hookworms and Electric Wizard. Like many of the best festivals, it's not all about the music as Jabberwocky will be hosting some film events and, as the name suggests, there'll be plenty of art to enjoy too. Tickets are priced at £38.50 per day.
