Ellie Goulding (born 30.12.1986) Ellie Goulding is a British singer and songwriter. She was initially introduced to the public when she was shortlisted for the BBC's 'Sound of 2010' poll, which she eventually topped.
Childhood: Ellie Goulding was born in Hereford, England, and went to school at the Lady Hawkins' High School in Kington, Herefordshire. She then graduated to Hereford Sixth Form College, before studying drama at Kent University, though she was advised to take a year out from studying in order to pursue a music career.
As a teenager, Ellie Goulding learned to play the guitar and started to write her own songs, inspired by folk music. Whilst at university, she became interested in electronic music. Frankmusik helped her to create her sound on 'Wish I Stayed' and Goulding has become a frequent collaborator of Starsmith, who produced her debut album, Lights.
Music Career: In September 2009, Ellie Goulding signed to Polydor Records, though her debut single 'Under the Sheets' was released on the independent label Neon Gold Records, so as not to put too much pressure on Goulding to perform well in terms of sales.
'Under the Sheets' received its debut radio airplay on BBC Radio 1 at the end of September 2009 and went on to receive a heavy rotation of airplay. The following month, Elle Goulding supported Little Boots (aka Victoria Hesketh, who had featured in the BBC's 'Sound of 2009' shortlist). Goulding also appeared on Later. with Jools Holland performing 'Under the Sheets' and 'Guns and Horses'.
Goulding's collaboration with Frankmusik, 'Wish I Stayed', was Single of the Week on iTunes in December 2009. Ellie then went on to provide vocals for Starsmith's remix of 'Sleepyhead' by Passion Pit.
After being announced as the winner of the BBC Sound of 2010 poll, Ellie Goulding also won the Critics' Choice Award at the BRIT Awards. The last person to win both awards before Goulding was the singer Adele.
Lights was Ellie Goulding's debut album and was released in March 2010. The second single to be released from the album was 'Starry Eyed', which received huge amounts of airplay and helped to propel the album to number one in the UK albums chart. The third single to be released from the album was 'Guns and Horses'.
Ellie Goulding has also written a number of tracks for Diana Vickers, as well as co-writing a track with Gabriella Cilmi for her own album. It was announced that Ellie Goulding would be supporting John Mayer on his UK tour in 2010.
