Production on The Maze Runner: The Death Cure has been shut down indefinitely, following an on set accident involving actor Dylan O’Brien back in March. According to E! News filming has been halted to allow the actor more time to recover from his injuries, which included a "concussion, facial fracture and lacerations.”

In a statement studio Fox said: "The resumption of principal photography on Maze Runner: The Death Cure has been further delayed to allow Dylan O'Brien more time to fully recover from his injuries. We wish Dylan a speedy recovery and look forward to restarting production as soon as possible.”

On March 18th O’Brien was taken to hospital after a stunt during filming went wrong. According to The Hollywood Reporter, O’Brien was in a harness on top of a moving vehicle when he was pulled off the vehicle unexpectedly and hit by another vehicle.

An incident report from WorkSafeBC described his injuries as including a "concussion, facial fracture and lacerations.” After the accident director Wes Ball told fans on twitter: “It’s been a whirlwind of emotions these past dew days."

"I’ve been overwhelmed with feelings of anger and sadness and guilt. But, ultimately I find myself left with just a deep love and respect for Dylan. He is one tough cookie. I’m sorry for the grief this accident has caused his friends and family as well as my wonderful cast and crew."

"It’s scary seeing your friend get hurt, but fortunately, Dylan is going to be just fine. After a few weeks of rest and recovery he’ll be back up and running to finish our adventure together.” The film was scheduled for release on Feb. 17, 2017, but it's unlear if the date will now have to be changed.
