Chris Martin (born Christopher Anthony John Martin, 2 March 1977) is an English singer, songwriter, and musician best known as the lead vocalist, pianist, and co-founder of the globally acclaimed band Coldplay. Chris Martin was born in Whitestone, Exeter, Devon, to Anthony Martin, a chartered accountant, and Alison Martin, a music teacher. He was the eldest of five siblings. Martin formed his first band, The Rocking Honkies, during his preparatory school years. He later attended Sherborne School, where he met Phil Harvey, who would become Coldplay's first manager.
