Wear A Mask! These Are The Songs Anti-maskers Need To Hear [Playlist]

Alice Cooper Chic Fugees

With the news that face masks are now becoming mandatory in shops and supermarkets in the UK (as in many countries), it's plain to see that the world is still divided on the issue. Most see it as an important step in preventing the spread of COVID-19 and any discomfort is worth it in the long run, while others are calling it a violation of their human rights.

Five Sets From Glastonbury Festival Well Worth Re-Watching

Glastonbury Festival Foo Fighters Anderson .Paak Chic Royal Blood The XX Flaming Lips

There aren't many weekends of the year that most of the country pray for rain, all except the fortuitous 250,000 people that descend on a farm in Glastonbury as most of the country sit at home and watch with what the twitter hashtag describes as #glastoenvy. There are of course some benefits to being an armchair viewer of Glastonbury Festival. The beer is always cold, the toilets are always clean and set clashes are not a concern.

The Pyramid Stage Glastonbury Festival

So as the likes of David Beckham, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Corbyn all hit Worthy Farm for the weekend, these were the five best sets of Glastonbury 2017 that are well worth re-watching from the comfort of home - accompanied by a great sound system.

MoogFest 2014

Named after America's main pioneer in the world of electronic music, Robert Moog, Moogfest is finally back after a brief sabbatical which saw them miss 2013 - to much disappointment from electronic lovers everywhere.

The much-adored Moog synthesizer is an incredible piece of equipment invented by a man who changed music for the better, so the fact that there's a weekend event named sharing the name is a thrilling prospect for musicians and fans alike. It began in 2004 and was eventually brought to Asheville, North Carolina in 2008 where it has stayed ever since. Not only have festival goers got a first-class music line-up to look forward to, Moogfest 2014 will also be hosting presentations during the day from both veteran music boffins to newcomers still experimenting with developing their sound. For all you synth-lovers out there, you will also be treated to various workshops which will no doubt give you an immersive experience into the heart of electronic music.

Daft Punk & Nile Rodgers Will Work Together Again After 'Get Lucky' Hit [Video]

Daft Punk Nile Rodgers Chic

Prior to the release of French electronic duo Daft Punk's latest album, Random Access Memories, few could have forecasted the unprecedented success of lead single 'Get Lucky' with over one million copies of the single sold since its release in April making the disco knee-jiggling track the year's UK bestseller and the most streamed Spotify track in 24 hours in history. Such was the hit power of 'Get Lucky' that Durex, inspired by the song title and subject matter, created a new line of 'Get Lucky' condoms featuring the band on the packet and a Japanese toy company unveiled a line of mini robo action figures of Guy Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter (AKA Daft Punk).

Now, spurred on by the worldwide enthusiasm for their new disco-electronic sound, it has been revealed that Chic guitarist Nile Rodgers will work with Daft Punk once again in an exciting new project that plans to release previously unheard Chic master in his interview on DJAZZ.tv whilst at the Jazz à Vienne Festival 2013. The guitarist and producer explains how he came across some old Chic material in record label Warner's tape library: "I found in the Warner tape library some old, unreleased Chic masters that didn't belong to them that were in boxes that said Chic. But when you opened them up they had Johnny Mathis inside, my film scores, they had Nile Rodgers solo tracks, they had Chic tracks that were not designed for any project except for the guys working with me writing songs. So I'm going to finish that, and this is an exclusive: Daft Punk want to do at least one of them with me, because they respect the music; they understand."

Liam Gallagher's Beady Eye Open Glastonbury Festival With Morning Set

Liam Gallagher was given the enviable job of opening the 2013 Glastonbury Festival with a surprise set on The Other Stage on Friday morning (June 28, 2013). The singer, who aired his dismay for the festival following his former band Oasis' set in 2004, arrived on-stage and immediately launched into Flick of the Finger, a recent single for Beady Eye.

The cloudy weather and early start did nothing to deter the famous Mancunian, who was on typically brash form. "It's never too early for a bit of Rock'n'Roll aggro, is it?" asked Gallagher as his new band launched into Morning Glory, an Oasis hit written by his brother Noel Gallagher.

Glastonbury Weather Dries Up Ready For The Big Acts

Michael Eavis Rolling Stones Portishead Primal Scream Smashing Pumpkins Tame Impala Nick Cave Chic Nile Rodgers Elvis Costello Arctic Monkeys Glastonbury Festival

Many Glasto goers woke up to the pitter patter of rain on canvas this morning as Wednesday's warm, humid weather well and truly dissolved into rain. By the Thursday evening, the site was drenched - what had initially been forecast as a "short sharp shower turned into an all-day deluge," according to the BBC. And where there's rain, there's mud: big sticky, gloopy, welly-stealing piles of it. This didn't deter any of the 118,000 ticket holders already onsite, with revellers retreating to indoor tents or embracing the wet weather and sludge with gusto by making mud slides. As the main festival wasn't even fully underway by then, we can't say we'd like to be sharing their tent this weekend - let's hope they've brought some babywipes!

Unlike everywhere else in the country, the rest of the weekend in the South-West is set to be mild, but not exactly toasty, with mean temperatures of 18°C combined with average windspeeds of about 15mph: so that little weather forecaster's cartoon of a grey cloud will pretty much sum up the weekend. 2009's extreme weather saw torrential downpours and thunderstorms lighting up the valley but was followed by 2010's glorious sunshine, which caused sunstroke and dust problems. Punters have a whole weekend of musical, comical and performance joy ahead of them to distract them from any weather woes though. Saturday night will be headlined by The Rolling Stones who have described the Glastonbury headline slot as an experience they were "destined" for, with organisers Michael and Emily Eavis "thrilled" to have the legendary Stones perform.

The Wait Is Over: Daft Punk Announce Fourth Studio Album, But No Tour

Daft Punk Rob da Bank Chic Feist Chilly Gonzales Animal Collective Panda Bear

Daft Punk are back at last, with their first studio album in eight years due to be released in May 2013. The French electronic dance duo, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo have signed a new recording deal with the Sony-owned Columbia label, according to The Guardian. This will be the fourth studio album from Daft Punk. Their last, Human After All was released in 2005, though they also created the soundtrack to Tron: Legacy in 2010.

So far, the details of the fourth album are limited but one thing seems to be certain: anyone expecting to see Daft Punk touring in support of the album is likely to be disappointed. There were rumors flying around that they would headline one of the days at Coachella. That proved unfounded, with the Coachella line-up now announced and not including the French dance act. BBC Radio 1 DJ Rob da Bank – who also curates Bestival on the Isle of Wight – has revealed that he was told Daft Punk would not be touring in 2013. The last time they played the UK was in 2007, at the Wireless festival.

What is known about Daft Punk’s movements in this lengthy gap between releases is that they have been collaborating with the likes of Chic’s Nile Rogers, Feist collaborator Chilly Gonzales and Animal Collective’s Panda Bear. They’re also said to have been working with the legendary disco pioneer Giorgio Moroder, though it’s unclear how much of the material they’ve worked on over the last few years will actually make it onto the 2013 album release. Mystery may shroud this Daft Punk release but word of its arrival is still bug news for Daft Punk fans. The wait is finally over.

15 Nominees Up For The 2013 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame: A Look At The Candidates

Rush Donna Summer Public Enemy Kraftwerk Chic

There have been no less than 15 nominees put up for a spot in the 2013 class of the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, including some real heavyweights -as you'd expect - like Rush, the late Donna Summer, Public Enemy and NWA. Indeed, just the names of those three show that it's diversity beyond the more recognised elements of rock that is starting to be recognised by the prestigious club these days, the shortlist showing vast sub-genres that rock & roll now takes in. Certainly in the case of Public Enemy and NWA you can point to their attitude, and the way in which they forced people to pay attention to them as rock & roll in itself; and they are just as worthy candidates as Summer, who passed earlier this year, but who made some of the most futuristic music of her era that only feels now like it's being caught up with.
