Heather be thy name……..

If you thought that Resident Evil holds the crown for scary game play then have I got news for you. This is the third instalment of the Silent Hill series and the best way I can find to describe it is imagine a full on blood and guts horror film and then imagine playing it. Its all about atmosphere, eerie soundtrack macabre graphics and a great plot make this instalment a winner from the very start.

I found that the main part of the suspense of this title is not what you see but rather the bits you can't. Confused, well let me explain I constantly had the feeling whilst playing this terror that just off screen there was something lurking, and I mean something that I would not want to bump into. What was that scratching sound, where did that howl come from and I am sure I saw something in the shadows….etc.etc.

In the game you become Heather a happy go lucky teenager who gets dragged into the Silent Hill underworld for a reason you will only find out about as you progress further through the game (no spoilers here). There are various puzzles and monsters to negotiate along the way with the aid of a few weapons and limited ammo so don't go peppering everything you see with lead sometimes its better to run or hide.

Overall the game is a winner even if the controls lack a little finesse. Its content is extremely gruesome so its not recommended for the younger gamers or those with a dodgy ticker. If you really want to experience what RE was trying to do with your nerve then check this out.

8.5 out of 10
