Late rapper Heavy D, Gladys Knight and Earth, Wind & Fire were honoured with tributes at the Soul Train Awards, while Cee Lo Green and Jill Scott were among the winners.
The ceremony took place in Atlanta, Georgia on 17 November (11) and the show aired in America on Sunday night (27Nov11).
The awards featured a poignant tribute to hip-hop icon Heavy D, who died earlier this month (Nov11), and stars including Kurtis Blow, Goodie Mob and Doug E. Fresh took to the stage to perform his hits in his honour.
Knight and Earth, Wind & Fire were also the subject of tribute performances from stars including Natalie Cole, Robin Thicke and Eric Benet, as they were presented with the evening's Legend Awards, while prizes also went to Green, who was named Best Male R&B Soul Artist, and Scott, who triumphed in the female category.
Miguel was named Best New Artist and Raphael Saadiq landed the Centric Award. Best Gospel Performance Male, Female or Group went to Mary, Mary for Walking, and Marsha Ambrosius' Far Away was named Record of the Year.
