Classic scary movie The Amityville Horror is set for a sequel, thanks to a new production deal between moguls at Miramax and Dimension Films.
The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes will chronicle the efforts of an ambitious TV news intern to expose spooky information about the famous haunted house after uncovering secrets not covered in the book that inspired the 1979 film, starring James Brolin and Margot Kidder.
Dimension Films boss Bob Weinstein says, "We are thrilled to return to the mythology of the Amityville Horror with a new and terrifying vision that will satisfy our existing fans and also introduce an entirely new audience to this popular haunting phenomenon."
Screenwriters Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands, who are expected to direct the project this summer (11), will co-produce the sequel with Paranormal Activity mastermind Jason Blum.
The Amityville Horror stories are based on events in the life of George Lutz. The Amityville Horror project is one of several sequel or development projects that Miramax and Dimension Films are currently collaborating on.
